In this poem I reflected on the trials of my academic experiences. Was the assault on academic freedoms and free speech all for naught? Can you really censor a writer dead or alive? Who calls on the independence to think?

ACADEMIC FREEDOMS: ACADEMIC WOES

April 21, 1993

The spirit of learning bring strong

yearning and the burning of the night light.

Is this the joy of knowledge all through

the dark of night?

The independence of thinking, to

be critical I might.

Oh, but man=s soul and mind should be

free to draw what ever conclusions he

might find in sight.

But, alas, society=s disdain for free speech

and one=s God given right.

Oh, how shameful.

For those that disagree know, no right,

they bring academic woes in the middle

of the dark and gloom of night.
