THE POWER AND MIRACLE OF PRAYER
Psalms of Prayer & Praise
Part 69: Part IV Psalms 35: A Plea & Prayer For Your Enemies
In the name of God Master, of the Universe, Ruler of the earth
Editors Note: There are many people new to the faith that have a great quarrel with praying for their enemies. But the enemies of the faithful are the enemies of God the Father. So who are those in the flesh that see self and not God in all things? Lean not on your human understanding for anything. The Spirit sends the heart as the heart accepts the Spirit. Beware that you keep God first and not man. As we liveth though we still see so many that come although true in so many things but stricken by the need to have miraculous power.
Rest assured beloved brethren that the Prophets and Apostles have passed on. Be certain that you come not claiming the attributes of those that were inspired to record the sacred text, heal the sick, raise the dead and speak in the multitude of languages that abound throughout the world. However many deny this Bible reality and lean on the Spirit tongue as no one can interpret anything but we know if you speak Chinese, Swahili, Russian, Spanish, French, German or Arabic or Aramaic or Greek or Italian or Latin. I speak English.
Peace be unto you. To the Church (the Church of Christ Jesus the Prophets and Apostles) and believing Christians everywhere. To those that believe in the Bible (the Spirit of God) as the supreme authority that governs all of humankind. In this we give thanks to God the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit that leads and guides us the straightway. We also come with no material motive or gain or profit from rendering the Truth of God. Those called to great service are given the greatest prosperity that exists by God and not man.
Psalms 35 is a very powerful Psalms that keeps us focused regarding many things that still exist today. We also remind you that the Word of God is a vehicle of strength. Thus we are rendered the strength and the fortitude to endure at all costs. Let not your heart be troubled, there is always a Word for you to understand the quest to stay in God’s will. Therefore we are grateful this early morning as we are every morning that God breaks the day and so graciously allows us to get up.
We resume our discussion with verse 19. Continue reading with us and we pray that you will get a blessing. This is assured if you stay in the Spirit.
Psalms 35: 19 “Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.”
As we look back at the verses pervious to this one especially verses 16 and 18 we first note that hypocritical mockers still abound. These people pretended to be friends of David. But they had secret wishes to tear him to pieces as a vicious beast would do to another animal for food. Meanwhile David took advantage of any situation where many people gathered to offer his testimony and gratitude for the goodness and mercy of the Lord.
Beloved we (FreedomJournal and all the saints) as did David never asked the Lord to uphold us in anything that is wrong. But David constantly prayed that his enemies would not be able to rejoice due to their efforts to persecute him. The Bible often renders the wink with the eye as a gesture of contempt and humiliation.
At Psalms 13 we find “The Prayer for God’s Answer---Now.” However we are to pray consistently even when God does not answer us immediately. You cannot hurry God. He is in charge. Here we find 6 powerful verses but look with us to verse 4.
Psalms 13: 4 “Let mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.”
David as any sensible God fearing person prayed to not be overcome or defeated by his enemies. How can you work for God if your enemies have defeated you? Will God strengthen the saints to do what He would have them to do?
At the 38th Division of Psalms we see another cross reference. This Psalms concentrates on the heavy burden of sin. God is the only source that can protect us from sin however one has to confess. We will note verses 16 and 19 taken from these insightful 22 verses.
Psalms 38: 16 “For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.”
Again once more than once David appeals to the Lord for relief from his enemies during his hour of any misfortune. He knew that they would rejoice in any problems that he may encounter. Even when one is sick on a bed your enemies will circle the bed looking for ways to harm, mock or settle on the alleged weakness of those that look up and not down. For an additional word here go with us down to verse 19.
Psalms 38: 19 “But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.”
We (FreedomJournal) have many enemies especially in Chattanooga the home of the birth of this writer. It is also the first place that I put on the armor of God as a writer for a small Black Press. However although not converted as I had not in my heart accepted Christ Jesus I answered a calling. We are so blessed here to see that the majority that seemingly has a power base are the unrighteous. This was seen in the case of David’s enemies and the enemies of the FreedomJournal since we came to life first as a writer in graduate school at Fisk University 1971-1973. For the record this was the first time this writer experienced a challenge to Free Expression and Academic Freedoms.
Meanwhile as these people multiply (many have come since 1971 in vain attempts to trample on the right to Free Expression and Freedom of Worship) they take on the strength of numbers. However this is an illusion. No number of people will defeat God’s people when He intervenes. With God beloved the majority becomes the minority and the so-called man-made majority become as powerless as a feather cast upon a rock. Glory to God.
Beloved we cannot resist the mention of the next verse found here at Palms 38. “They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.”
David did not want to convey solely that those that return evil for good were just his adversary that stands to reason. The most important thing he reveals is the motive of their actions. He is being persecuted because he followed that which is good. The record shows that the evil will dislike those that are good. Now return with us to our primary scripture and several concluding verses for this discussion.
Psalms 35: 20-22 “For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matter against them that are quiet in the land.”
The wicked the enemies of David were devoid of peace. Meanwhile they sponsored on-going campaigns and plots of treachery against those that came in peace. Those that come to Censor and attempt to impede our posting of the FreedomJournal On-line also devise wicked plots that are digged for evil but end up as good as we will survive as did David with the help and longsuffering of the Lord.
“Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha our eye hath seen it.” (Also see Psalms 33: 13 & 40: 15)
Again we see aha as a term of ridicule and a way to mock someone. David’s enemies rejoiced in his troubles but to no avail. God will never allow those that come to taunt and be court jesters regarding His Truth to have any real victory. So be wise in the Lord and flee from the man that winks at the saints.
“This thou hast seen, O Lord; keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.”
Here David prayed that the Lord will not fail to help him. We also pray for our enemies and friends. We also pray that the Lord will give us the strength and the power to reason to do His will. We come not to satisfy our fleshly needs or wants. We come in a bold fashion to do God’s will for that is obedience and our faithful call to duty is what will render the free gift of Paradise.
Peace and Paradise,
