Part 23:  We May Stand UP In Prayer Blessing God (Nehemiah 9: 5, 1-4)

In the name of God Master, of the Universe, Ruler of the earth

Editors Note: Many come no way at all not knowing that to give thanks to the Lord is a way of life for the true believers as they make the sojourn. This way in prayer is not designed to fit any particular occasion. Thus we pray as we see the Lord sitting or standing I knelled in a humble posture as I laid prostrate before the throne of grace.

Meanwhile what is in your heart? Do you come with a clean and uncluttered heart that reeks and bleeds compassion and love for all that liveth? This means friends, family and foe. We pray for relief from oppression however we also pray for the oppressors as we also pray for those that send and receive love.

Greetings Brethren,

Peace be unto you. To the Church (the Church of Christ Jesus the Prophets and Apostles) and believing Christians everywhere. To those that believe in the Bible (the Spirit of God) as the supreme authority that governs all of humankind. In this we give thanks to God the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit that leads and guides us the straightway.

Beloved we pray that you the reader will receive a blessing as you review, mediate and digest these words on prayer. We confess and bear witness that Almighty God as we look to the Spirit has offered us a blessing time and time again as we have been directed to write as we are inspired on various subjects. Thus “The Power and Miracle of Prayer” is one such subject. Therefore we pray that we will see something that will help us as we make this journey so that we may help someone else along this way, Glory to God.

Meanwhile follow us to the Old Testament Book of Nehemiah for a word on our subject. At Nehemiah the 9th Division we find scripture that supports the Biblical revelation on standing and praying. Our primary verse is verse 5 however we will also note the 4 preceding verses to get a background on the 5th verse.

Nehemiah 9: 5: “Then the Levities, Jeshua and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabaniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the Lord your God for ever an ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise”.

The men that led the exercises were all Levities. (See Leviticus 10: 11; Deuteronomy 17: 9 and Malachi 2: 7 for more on why the Levities were a chosen people among the Jews for certain tasks etc.). Meanwhile we see the phrase “Stand up” and we know that they stood up and prayed. But before we look at the four preceding verses go with us to a cross reference found at:

I Chronicles 29: 13: “Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.”

David the king is noted here in a scripture that is powerful and worthy of study verse by verse. We suggest that you begin at the first verse and continue to the end however the bracket of scriptures from verses 10-25 is where we find David praising God. God is thanked in prayer so here we find strong expressions of gratitude to God who is the source of all things that are good. We also come as the FreedomJournal speaks to praise God and thank Him for all his many blessings. For we know that the days and nights could be darker and the break of day closed if not for God and His longsuffering, mercy and goodness thus we are much obliged as all should be that enjoy the goodness of the Lord.

Now follow us back to Nehemiah and the first 4 verses to get a better understanding of our primary verse 5.

Nehemiah 9: 1-4: “Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Isarel were assembled with fasting, and with sack-clothes, an earth upon them.” (Also see I Samuel 4: 12; Ezra 8: 23; 10: 11; Nehemiah 8:9 and Job 2: 12).

9:2: “And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.”

9:3: “And they stood up  in their place, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the Lord their God.”

9: 4: “Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levities, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani and Chenani, an cried with a lord voice unto the Lord their God.”

The month noted at verse 1 is the 7th also see Nehemiah 8: 14 for a further reference. Meanwhile this was a very important month and time for the Jews. Because in this month came the great Day of Atonement on the 10th day and the feast of the tabernacles also see Leviticus 16: 29 for an additional reference note here. Here we see at this place an additional means of importance regarding the public reading of the law.  Therefore on the 24th of the month the people came together for fasting and things noted as items of great concern.

As we continue to read these verses we see the reading of the law. We also see the essence of prayer and the people stood up.

Will you stand up on the Lord’s side? Will you pray standing up in public, private and in your closet? I heard the law in my prayers but Jesus answered all things noted in the law. Thus we move with love and this is the first commandment.  Just “Try Jesus Way.”
