(What Does The Bible Teach About Preachers?)

Part 9:  A Tenth To The Levites

Greetings Brethren,

Peace be unto you. Why do so many church leaders, Pastors, Preachers etc. deny the resurrection and preach that God still commands a 10% tithe among the people? Is this a willful act? Is this a part of the growing Biblical illiteracy among church leaders? Is this a planned and calculated scheme for Preachers to extort money from spiritually illiterate church goers?

Beloved just what were the duties of the Priest during the Old Law? Do any of their duties transcend to the church today? We resume with our primary scripture taken from Deuteronomy 18.

Deuteronomy 18: 3-5. “And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priests the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.”

“The first fruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.” (Also see Exodus 22: 29, 23: 19)

“For the Lords thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the Lord, him and his sons for ever.” (Exodus 28:1, Numbers 3: 10, Deuteronomy 10: 8).

It was ordained by God that the tribe of Levi (Levites) were to receive a tenth of all the products of the other 12 tribes. However the family of Aaron held the office of the Priesthood therefore they were to receive certain portions of the animals brought to the altar for sacrifice. (Leviticus 7: 30-34 and Numbers 18:1).

The scriptures no where reveal that the tenth awarded to the Levites (Aaronic Priesthood) was money. Meanwhile we see a great corruption of the scripture that delegates the tithe or first fruits. So as we study the role of Preachers and use them as a means to see the historical development of Preachers we see the corruption of scripture and a callous attempt to re-write the Bible.
