(What Does The Bible Teach About Preachers?)
Part 49: Pastor’s Without Knowledge: Brutish and Stupid (Jeremiah 10:21)
Peace be unto you. Satan is a liar. When he comes we pray to forever keep in mind the Father, Jesus Christ our Savior guided by the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for the Truth of your Word and for this day that you and you alone have made.
Peace and Love, Carl A. Patton a willing and humble slave of Almighty God writing for the FreedomJournal 10 September 2006 in the year of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
In the name of God, Master of the universe, Ruler of the earth
Beloved are you receiving a blessing as you follow us in this discussion? We pray that you are being blessed as we strive to follow the Truth of God willing to make any sacrifice for the Lord. Realizing of course that many will close their ears, however the written Word is etched in stone and will last.
Jeremiah 10:21: “For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.”
Again we note that the word Pastors is taken from a word that means rulers and feeders. Pastors at this place apply to the Priests who were given the two-fold duty of ruling and dispensing (feeding) spiritual knowledge to the flock. (Also see our previous discussion Jeremiah 5:31 and Malachi 2:7).
Meanwhile Jeremiah reveals that these Pastors who were expected to acquire and teach knowledge had become brutish which is defined as stupid. Logically Pastors that are uninformed or stupid will not be aware of approaching danger. As a result the flock will become scattered. Jeremiah writes to the Pastors in Judah who are threatened by the Babylonians. However his message is applied today as we view the contemporary Pastors and their insistence in following flaming trails of money.
Many come today with only credentials of sin as a license to claim a calling to Christ. No one is free from sin, but just because you have been incarcerated, a drug addict or an alcoholic does not in itself qualify you to become a Preacher.
Some attend bogus theological schools and buy doctoral degrees boasting of academic credentials and can barely tie their shoes. However they cry a call to the ministry. Also some attend accredited seminaries where they debate with theologians steeped in false doctrines passed down by the various Biblically illiterate denominations. However in the midst of all these false-hoods is the Bible. Although the false teachers come with various versions of the Bible that take many things out of context the King James Version of the Bible is still with us. Thus there is no excuse for the folly of Biblical ignorance among those that have entered the ministry.
We return now to our primary scripture taken from Jeremiah 23.
Jeremiah 23:2: “Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people, ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord.” (Also see Exodus 32:34; Jeremiah 44:22).
What are the responsibilities of the Pastor’s? What is feeding the flock? Will they distinguish between God and man?
