(What Does The Bible Teach About Preachers?)

Part 38: Elders Know Love

Greetings Brethren,

Peace be unto you. Is love a major component in the walk with Christ? Thanks be to God our father and to His son our savior Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit for love.

In the name of God, Master of the universe, Ruler of the earth

We continue our discussion regarding the qualifications of Elders noted in Titus 1: 6-9. As we read and study Titus and I Timothy the 3rd Chapter we see clear instructions on the role and attitude of Elders in the church. However most churches do not have Elders.

We resume our discussion with verse 8.

Titus 1: 8: “But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy temperate;”

The Elders home should be a place where worthy people are always welcome. They should love that which is good. The Elders are sober men thus they will curb and control their desires. He will also exercise justice sin his supervision of the flock.

Elders are also holy and righteous men. (For the record the Bible does not identify Elders as women only as men). As holy men Elders are instructed to live a righteous life showing an example of righteous living for others.

Why did God instruct Elders as church leaders to be holy men? How can church leaders live for the world and not for God? Do the people that claim to be preachers follow the guidelines for church leaders? How did Preachers/Pastors/Ministers become in charge of the church instead of the Elders? Does the Bible give preachers power over Elders?
