(What Does The Bible Teach About Preachers?)
Part 10: Levites The Ministers
Peace be unto you. We are grateful to be able to open our Bible daily. There was a Dark Time when the Bible was seized by those that brought things of the world into the Church. However as the Bible now resides in every home it is seldom seen by the multitudes.

Beloved the first Ministers were the Priests of the Old Testament. What are the parallels between how they were supported and how Ministers are now supported? Prior to this essay we discussed what God commanded the church to do in reference to supporting those who delivered the Gospel at 1 Corinthians the 9th Chapter.
But in the New Testament God does not teach us that the support of the Ministers is a tithe. So why most do churches today still claim certain aspects of the tithing principle as a command from God to the congregations.
Follow us back to Deuteronomy 18 and pursue our primary scripture further for clarity on tithing for the Priesthood.
Deuteronomy 18: 6-7. “And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the Lord shall choose;
“Then he shall minister in the name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Levities do, which stand before the Lord.”
“They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.”
The Hebrew nation was scattered often settling in Canaan. Thus the Levites would be settled among many people. Often they would not be located near a tabernacle as they were when they were wandering. Turn to Numbers 35 for a note on what they received as a tithe. We note that the tithe was never money; however the false teachers today corrupt this Old Law even more when they turn the 10th of grain, crops and livestock into money.
Numbers 35: 2-3. “Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levities suburbs for the cities round about.”
Suburbs in this passage mean the open country where cattle are driven to pasteur. The other tribes were required to give a 10th of their increase to the Levities and this included cattle. The suburbs noted here was the place where the Levities kept the cattle from one tithe to the next tithe.
Meanwhile the scattered Levities were given the same rights wherever they went as to their duties as priests in the tabernacle. Since we no longer have tabernacles or Priests why do we still have so many Ministers still teaching that the tithe is still required by God. For your thought and mediation read the entire Chapter of Deuteronomy 18 especially note the bracket of scripture 15-25 the call of the new prophet (s). Would this new prophet replace the tithe?
